About
What this covers
A reference on Cincinnati, Ohio — its buildings, trades and record.
The city was surveyed at the mouth of the Licking in 1788 and called Losantiville; Governor Arthur St. Clair renamed it Cincinnati in 1790 for the Society of the Cincinnati. By the 1850 federal census it held 115,435 people, sixth largest in the country and the largest anywhere off the seaboard. Almost everything the site covers happened inside the terrace formed by one northward bend in the Ohio.
The pages are grouped in six sections, in the order the material happened. Each section has a landing page, and every page on the site is listed in the archive.
