Who, me? Worry?
BY SARAH SMITH
I'm not worried.
I may scour the job listings on monster.com, but I'm just being proactive. Yeah, I'm clipping coupons and denying my husband his beloved Wednesday pizza nights (he gets to keep Fridays), but that is not at all a reflection of any inner turmoil having to do with financial distress. Those Craigslist ad postings I made a few days ago titled "Tutor with a Masters in Early Childhood Education" - well, that is how I amuse myself. I like to read the responses from my new friend from Nigeria who has a son named Kevin in desperate need of my intellectual expertise. Or "expertiz," as my Nigerian friend would say.
I officially became "not worried" a few weeks after I quit my job to become a stay-at-home mom. I had heard something on the news about our esteemed city being in some sort of fiscal trouble. I was rocking my newborn daughter (a Memorial Day baby!) and listening to the news when I heard that things were worse than expected ... blah, blah, blah ... city employees' jobs may be endangered ... blah, blah, blah ... retirement funds are being cut ... blah, blah, blah ... Let's go ride on a streetcar ...
Seriously?
My husband arrived home from work a few minutes later. He assured me that his job is safe, that this does not apply to him, and that I shouldn't worry. So, I am officially "not worried."
But, if anybody would like to hire a Miami University graduate with a B.A. in English and a master's in early childhood education (3.96 GPA!) on a part-time or flexible work schedule, please e-mail me at sarahsonon@gmail.com.
