Taft Museum of Art, 316 Pike St., downtown
513-241-0343 or www.taftmuseum.org
Take your time at the Taft Museum of Art. There's a lot to see and a lot to learn. And when you're done, grab a glass of iced tea or wine (or both!) at the Lindner Family Café.
The outdoor patio is adjacent to the museum's aromatic Rowe Family Garden, an area festooned with peonies and magnolias. Grab a table here, and you've escaped downtown's hum - you'll feel like friends invited you to their summer home, or like you're at an intimate wedding.
The cafe's menu changes seasonally. A menu in late May offered a fresh tomato tart with Roma tomatoes, basil, shallots and more ($9), smoked salmon and cucumber on rye bread ($9.50) and rosemary lamb stew ($11). Ask your server what two soups the chefs are serving (recently it was tomato and artichoke, and Jamaican).
The cafe's menu often reflects the museum's current exhibitions. Expect some Italian-influenced fare (especially local dessert from Madisono's Gelato) when Views from the Uffizi: Painting the Italian Landscape, a new exhibit, opens June 13. The Taft is borrowing paintings from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, home to landscape paintings stemming from the Renaissance to the 18th century.
Open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
