Table with a view: Chart House

405 Riverboat Row, Newport
859-261-0300 or www.chart-house.com

A view of the glimmering Ohio River can be a nice pairing with spiced yellowfin ahi or Chilean sea bass, two fresh-fish regulars at Chart House. The fine-dining restaurant's deck has several patio-style tables and chairs: Watch the boats go by and relax with lounge tunes on the stereo, a bottle of wine and some calamari or mussels.

The menu is seafood-heavy, but pasta and fresh vegetables (from steamed asparagus to creamed spinach) are on the list. The shrimp fresca ($27.99) comes with angel hair pasta and crab meat. If you're not feeling noodles, share the shrimp trio platter ($24.99) with someone - it includes one dozen shrimp, seasonal vegetables and rice pilaf.

Any of the menu's well-crafted entrees are fitting for dinner on the deck. With a table riverside and a view of Cincinnati, you won't be in a hurry to eat.

It might be difficult to resist ordering dessert, including the Hot Chocolate Lava Cake ($8.99), which includes Godiva chocolate liqueur, Dreyer's vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate sauce and a Heath bar crunch. It takes 30 minutes to prepare.

Hours: Open 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
